An EHO inspection can happen at any time. Being prepared means less stress for you and a better impression for the inspector. Here's how Spotless Score helps you stay ready every day.
Before the visit
Your daily readiness checklist
If you're using Spotless Score consistently, you should already be inspection-ready. Here's what to double-check:
- All checks completed today — Open the app and look at your Daily Hygiene card. Are there any red (overdue) items?
- Temperature logs up to date — All fridge, freezer, cooking, and hot-hold temps recorded for today
- No gaps in recent days — Scroll through the last week of completed checks. Are there any missed days?
What to have on hand
- Your Spotless Score device (tablet or phone) with app open
- Staff training certificates (digital copies or originals)
- Supplier delivery records
- Pest control service records
- Waste disposal contracts
During the visit
Show your records
When the EHO asks to see your temperature records, cleaning schedules, or due diligence, open Spotless Score and navigate to:
- Home screen — Shows your Daily Hygiene card with today's completion status
- Daily Checklist — Full list of all check occurrences grouped by status (overdue, pending, done, skipped)
- Manage Checks — Shows all check templates with their frequencies and types
- Cold Stores / Food Items — Shows your setup with target temperature ranges
In-app compliance report
You can now generate an EHO-ready compliance report covering your hygiene checks and cold storage temperature logs from the Reports screen. A printable / PDF export is still coming soon.
What to say and do
- Be polite and cooperative — EHOs are more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt if you're engaging positively
- Let them know you use a digital food safety system — most EHOs view this positively
- Explain your records if asked — walk them through how you log checks, track temperatures, and handle out-of-range readings
- If something is genuinely wrong, be honest about it and explain what you're doing to fix it
